Any time No. 1 tangles with No. 2, it figures to be a great football game.
This time, however, there is more to it.
Lincoln-Way East, ranked No. 1 in the Joliet area – and No. 1 in the state in Class 8A, for that matter – will visit No. 2 Lincoln-Way Central on Friday night, with a 7:30 kickoff.
Both in the same school district? That certainly spices things. But how about what has gone on in the district. North closed in the spring of 2016. Several prominent members of the Central roster began their high school careers at East. There’s a bit more intrigue.
Blackhawks singer Jim Cornelison will be on hand to present his booming rendition of the national anthem. It’s also Central’s Salute to Service Night.
While you might assume everyone in the Frankfort-Mokena-New Lenox area will converge at Central on Friday night, there is one other factor involved. The game will be televised live on the Comcast station CN100. So for those who do not want to fight the crowd, there is an alternative.
